Can I just say ...this book!
AN OLD WOMEN'S REFLECTIONS written by Peig Sayers is also known as the Queen of Gaelic storytellers. Peig recounts the events of her life and others on her beloved Blasket Island, a must read before going out to the Blaskets. The Blasket Islands are three miles off Ireland's Dingle Peninsula. Until their evacuations just after the Second World War, the lives of the 150 or so Blasket Islanders had remained unchanged for centuries. A rich oral tradition of story telling, poetry and folktales kept alive the legends and history of the islands and has made their literature famous throughout the world.
Boats go out from about May till October from Dingle and Dunquin by reservation. On my list!
